Myasia Dowdell (b. 1989) began working at LAND Studio and Gallery in 2011, and her work is equal parts imagination and careful observation. Dowdell alternates between naturalistic portraits of her favorite celebrities and animals in their natural environments to renderings of fantastic creatures, including her “seasonal sheep” - a character of her own invention with features that change with the seasons. Dowdell’s work is widely collected, with many of her portraits in the collection of Spike Lee. In 2016, Dowdell participated in the Ace Hotel's Artists in Residence Program and in 2018, Dowdell was a recipient of the Wynn Newhouse award.
